About Us
Our Purpose
Our main goal is to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ as well as aid them in their struggle to re-enter their family and community after the setbacks of homelessness and substance abuse.
Our History
For over 30 years, the Atlanta City Baptist Rescue Mission has co-labored with churches and families to assist the homeless by providing food, safe and structured shelter, clothing, friendship, and most importantly, the message of salvation.
Who We Are
We are a non-profit organization and ministry of a local, New Testament church, relying solely on support from churches, individuals, and businesses. It takes many individuals to keep the mission operating every day; therefore, every person’s participation is of the utmost importance.
Our Programs
We can currently serve 20 men on our 6-month discipleship program, 18 transient housing, and 80 overnight guests. Those on the discipleship program are instructed in Biblical principles, work ethic, practical job skills, and are given counseling to help them learn to change how they respond to problems that previously brought them to the rescue mission. They experience a serving-others atmosphere each day, by assisting the clients that come into the facility for evening stay.
“And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.”
— Luke 10:30-37
Meeting Needs. Ministering Truth. Making a Difference.
Our mission isn’t just another homeless shelter in downtown Atlanta. It’s unique and all it’s own among the several shelters located in Atlanta because we don’t only feed and clothe them physically, but strive to reach them spiritually with the Living Bread of the Gospel. Three hundred and sixty-five days a year we hold chapel services so that each man who enters our doors may have a chance to hear the Good News, and the opportunity to receive God’s free gift of heaven through Christ. But they must choose to receive or reject it.
